  • What is a giclée anyway?

Giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) is a French word meaning “to spray ink” or “to spray on.” It is an elegant, high quality printing process in which the artist’s original painting is digitally reproduced using state-of-the-art technology and the finest inks, papers or canvas. Giclées have a wider color range and deeper colors than lithograph prints, which make them more accurate compared to the original artwork. The process produces a print that has jewel-like color and crisp quality and texture with the look and feel of an original painting on paper. The inks used are very stable, giving fade and color shift resistance of many years under average indoor light conditions, making them the reproduction of choice for galleries, artists, photographers, and museums.

Flat dry storage will make your giclées last permanently. As with any other work of art on paper, hanging them in direct sunlight will make them fade somewhat. When framed and matted, using archival materials will protect your giclées. Conservation framing advice from a competent framer is suggested.

I recommend treating your giclées with the same care you would original art. Given the proper care, giclées are as permanent and lasting as any other work of art on paper. Each of my Limited Edition prints is reproduced on EPSON® watercolor paper using EPSON® archival pigment inks with an amazing lightfastness rating of 200 years, based on accelerated testing of prints displayed indoors, framed under glass.
